I believe that the most durable and effective route to change and healing lies in learning how to ‘be with’ our immediate and direct experience from a place of open-hearted awareness.
When we learn to do this, our experience of ourselves and of life begins to change. We start to feel less stuck and stagnant and more dynamic, alive, and interesting. We gradually cease to experience ourselves as a project to be managed or a problem to be solved and start to feel like a living, breathing being with our own place in the world and the universe.
Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic work, and mindfulness and contemplative practice are all ways to make this shift. We learn to relate to ourselves and our experience with curiosity, compassion, and understanding, and this gives us the space and freedom to begin to step out of patterns, roles, and identities that no longer serve us or the life we want to lead.

I am out of network for all insurance policies. However, many plans offer out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy and I can provide you with a superbill at the end of each month to file for reimbursement. Contact your insurance provider about your coverage if out-of-pocket pay is not a feasible option for you. You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your out-of-pocket care will cost.

This is a choice I have made after carefully considering what is best for both my clients’ and my own well-being. Not accepting insurance allows me to put my clients’ care front and center, without a third party making decisions about the course of treatment. If you have questions about this policy, I am happy to discuss with you further. If you would like more context or information, ProPublica has been publishing an article series on ways the health insurance industry interferes with mental health care:

It depends! Typically sessions involve some time spent checking in and identifying your core concerns or topics for the session. Often we will then settle in to working experientially with parts via IFS, with somatic practices to build body awareness, or meditations or guided inquiry practices. Sometimes we also just need to feel connected to another person and be able to talk something out, and that’s fine too. Ultimately, it is your time—I offer facilitation and a degree of guidance, but you set the direction and decide where we need to go.Engagements range from two weeks for focused audits to several months for comprehensive transformation.

I see clients either weekly or biweekly. Often I suggest that new clients start weekly; this allows us to feel out if we are a good fit more quickly, and it can help to develop a sense of momentum and continuity. However, biweekly works well for many clients, especially when they are open to doing work on their own between sessions.

This is another ‘it depends’ question. Typically the clients who seek me out are interested in longer-term work lasting a year or more. This is not always the case—sometimes clients have concerns that can be resolved in less time. There is never a requirement to participate in therapy for a particular length of time; you are the best judge of when you feel able to step away and tackle your challenges on your own.

Currently I only meet with clients via telehealth. I use secure, HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing software for all sessions, and find that, consistent with research, meeting via telehealth is just as effective as in-person work—and it’s certainly more convenient. I hope to be able to offer in-person sessions in the Portland, Oregon area sometime in 2027.

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Sessions missed without 24+ hours notice will be billed in full, except in cases of true emergency and severe, unexpected illness. Frequent no-shows and/or cancellations may result in a temporary pause in services until you are able to maintain a regular cadence in sessions.

Yes, I offer a limited number of reduced fee spots. Currently all these spots are full and I keep this updated as that changes.
